The Peoples Choice: Textcees

Respected members of Letsbeef are asked to give their personal top 5 textcees, and a league table is created from the results using a points system. This is to help gauge which textcees are considered the greatest ever.

Participating members are asked to use their own discretion regarding what achievements and qualities they use and rate to create their list. Impact, writing, persona, championships etc etc its completely up to the author to create his own standards.

If you wish to create a list, please PM RULE, Some members may be approached as well.

Any lists deemed completely unrealistic might not be published, as will we try to keep this as legitimate as possible.

Phenomonon

1. DaDDiO
DaDDiO is by far number 1 on my list with his creative concepts and his amazingly unique flow.. This emcee can hold a 10 syllable rhyme scheme and make it look easy while also throwing heavy and complex punches.. Even his jabs hit hard.. DaDDiO has battled and beaten the best of the best and has won only 1 grand championship but that is only because he hasn't attempted winning another.. This hall of famer has made a major impact on Letsbeef and is number 1 on many people's lists.. DaDDiO is definitely a force to be reckoned with..

2. UNKNOWN ARTIST
UA is really the only emcee I can say it was an honor to lose to.. All the guy does is win.. He's had some strong ass punchlines and just like DaDDiO he has beaten the best with his dope concepts and clean wording.. UA is an all around strong emcee.. He's dominated the text scene then moved on to audio and destroyed his competition.. He's got plenty of titles to show why he's the best and has ran through everyone to get them.. He has definitely inspired a lot of emcees and is a legend..

3. reEFer
This soon to be hall of famer is number 3 on my list because of his wittiness and creative punchlines that he executes nicely with a great flow.. reEFer has beaten a handful of heavyweights and made it look easy.. He's dropped plenty of quotables and has executed concepts on ways I've never seen before.. Hes had a few great tourney runs and has won one but in the mean time has proven himself to be a legend amongst legends.. People may argue about him being in the hall of fame but at the end of the day reEFers bars speak for themselves..

4. Mikey Deniro
Mikey is definitely a unique and gifted emcee.. His punchlines and concepts are creative and his verses are smooth as hell.. He, just like others on my list has shitted on his competition and has beaten a lot of dope emcees.. He can hold a rhyme scheme like its nothing while maintaining the necessities to win a battle.. From text to audio to live battling he is a talented individual.. This future hall of famer has also dropped some hot tracks making him one diverse emcee that I recommend everyone to check out...

5. RULE
This was a tough decision but RULE is by far one punch heavy motherfucker.. He's brought a lot to letsbeef and has dominated his competition.. This is one of the first emcees that I actually read every battle from.. He's got hundreds of quotables and creative punchlines.. His concepts are dope as hell and his wordplay is good.. At one point he was the self-proclaimed punchline king but I feel he's earned the title.. He's won plenty of titles and quickly made a name for himself.. He's not only a beast on the text side but also on the audio side making him a hall of famer and number 5 on my list..

1. reEFer
A good verse is not only a verse which has good concepts and punches. It's how you manage to execute and deliver that punchline/concept. reEFer excels at that. He has some really crack concepts and his setups are always relevant to his ending punchline. The dude manages to execute a haymaker in both the lines whilst keeping them connected. That is some real tough shit and not many can do that. He can keep the same scheme for a 32 liner and still manage to throw haymakers.

2. Erupt
A true text battling veteran. I used to read his battles whenever I needed that little push. He is like reEFer in a sense. He is one of the few on the site who understands what a proper bar should look like. His battle with Askari was mind blowing to be honest. They were the most proper "bar to bar" schemes I've read in a while and the sense of continuity was very well achieved. I see him winning the GC this year,to be pretty honest.

3. RULE
RULE has a unique swag. His verses are punchline-heavy. He has that live battling style to be honest. If he ever considers battling in the URL,the Don Demarco horn sound will get played out hahaha. This dude has some really dope wordplays and concepts. Hes a beast and can keep it consistent right through every line with almost no filler. He has a sophisticated choice of words withing his multies and punchlines and most of his bars are very skillfully framed.

4. DaDDiO
This dude has insane concepts and punchlines. And Like reEFer,he can keep the same scheme for a 64 liner and still throw some really heavy haymakers. He is crazy with the verses; Less filler, heightened consistency and better punches stringed with some fresh metaphors and concepts. He would be in my top 3 if he was more active.

5. NawkOut
Wordplay King. He has the best grip on wordplay till date. He has some really dope concepts as well. He has very clever and effective punchlines too which make his wordplays much more effective. Hes one of the few guys on this site who can manage to post an unfuckwithable verse; Classy punchs hitting harder with the clever references, wordplays & similes.

1. Erupt
Erupt is also the only texter I can truly describe as not merely talented, but a genius. I didn't think much of the dude when I first discovered him, but as I began to improve my craft and gain a deeper understanding of text battling, I started to realize that this dude is nothing short of brilliant. If you really "get" text battling, you can't read this dude's work without shaking your head and wishing you could write like that. His unique flow, his mastery of wordplay, and his ability to perfect execute concepts from simple idiomatic jabs to multi-layered haymakers, all while holding the same scheme, take texting from a science or art from into something that us commoners couldn't hope to copy in a million years. Dope doesn't even begin to describe the dude, and nobody else is even close to his #1 spot.

2. reEFer
When you combine his perfection with idioms and phrases with his flow and scheming capacity, you'll see that he'd be almost on a level with Erupt if he was more versatile. reEFer's greatest strength as a battler - his idiomatic punches - is also, in a way, his greatest weakness, because it keeps him from adding the sort of variance you see from other battlers with different types of punches, like pure wordplay. If he made a concerted effort to become more versatile without sacrificing any of his strengths, I could see him being near Erupt for that #1 spot.

3. DaDDiO
Yes, he does slant his rhymes. Sometimes it's done within fairly acceptable limits; sometimes it does step outside of what most modern textcees would consider unacceptable. Yes, he is overrated by people who consider him the unquestioned and unchallenged GOAT. Yes, he does occasionally have weird concepts. Those facts, though, can't take away from the truth: This dude, at least when he gives a shit, has the highest density of hard punches of anyone on LB, ever. The way this dude can keep a scheme for a 16, 32, or even 64, while hardly missing an opportunity to throw some sort of heavy jab that leads into a haymaker, is unrivaled. It's his reEFer-like focus on idioms, tendency towards major slanting, and occasionally underwhelming concepts that keep him out of the above two spots. He is, objectively speaking, overrated, but don't let the critics fool you - his flaws are outshined by his talent and what he does right.

4. ViTRiOL
The only thing I can really say about this dude is that, unlike Erupt - the master-of-all-trades - ViTRiOL is more of a jack-of-all-trades - lower punch density, less powerful concepts, and overall not quite as heavy. There's nothing about him you can pinpoint where you can say, "This dude is top-tier in that particular aspect of battle rap" - but he has no major flaws, either. When I look at ViTRiOL, I see someone full of talent who has never made the serious effort needed to be among the few above him. That, though, may be a major misconception, considering the fact that I don't know the dude very well.

5. Dono
Even though Dono is a FAR inferior battler to the above in terms of text battling proper, his abilities in other areas of texting - the nontraditional formats like one bar and topicals - give him a well-earned place on this list. He has a talent that, in my opinion, is of a degree similar to that of Erupt's - it's just not the same. The level of blunt emotionality he can weave into a story, the almost absurd connectedness of his concepts in one bar battles, and other showings, make him nothing less than a fucking genius in those areas. With some dedication, I think Dono could be on a level similar to the above four in regular text battling - he definitely has the talent at manipulating the English language to achieve a desired effect.

1. RULE
This bloke has done things that takes many people a long time to do. I'm not just talking about winning one championship; more like several and consistently dropping these charismatic punches, wordplay and concepts that have been so fundamental for the way the site has evolved to today. Needless to say, the amount of time he has devoted to the site and assisted with the elevation of numerous emcees. Remember, he's been on this site for 6 years and within 3 years he won 4-5 separate championships.

2. Jason
What would a list be without Jason. The first thing that comes to mind is his flow & swag that is so fluent, and adding to that punches that ridicule the opponent in such a hilarious way. It almost seems that all this talent comes with such effortless attempts, who consistently bombarded us with impressive use of punches and double meaning. The bubba ganoush punch also sticks out to me.

3. Mikey Deniro
Some mightn't of heard of Mickey. But he's provided us with some of the best concept relevant and use of scheming the site will, or might ever see. Illokwent and Manhattan might be following in his footsteps, but lets not forget the path Deniro has paved for these guys. Taking out top tier emcees with fantastic wording & scheming throughout, whilst keeping the relevance of the concept. Not easy to do and it was elegantly committed by Mikey D which earned a place here.

4. Lockhart
If you take one look at this name ya'll probably be thinking i'm mind fucking you again. Honestly, I'm not. Look at who he's taken down, look at what he's achieved. I'm calling a championship under his belt sometime in the near future, and that's is all I will say. Ever since i came back he's constantly impressed me with his use of punches and flips that ridicule the opponents verse. Don't write Lockhart off.

5. Erupt
I called it. I called that he would become a GC one day. Rupt was one of the most under-rated emcees of all time, who wasn't under-looked, but never got the recognition he deserved. Along with the agreement of remarK, we called that Rupt had bars that would see him win a tournament, which he proved last year, and following into a couple of more finals. His complexity is what stands out; delivering some great ideas with punches that are very tough to counter.

1. Jason
Dude is the epitome of swag. He’s got that smooth wording that makes his lines come out at the roll of the tongue. . And the swag makes it seem like its effortless, like he’s not even trying. Also, he is just so rude – doesn’t come with stuff too lyrical but he just straight disrespects his opponents in a humorous way. And his punches are those punches that got readers like “why didn’t I think of that” … they aren’t “outside-the-box” punches most of the time imo, but they are punches that are under your nose and he just takes them and throws them in the ring. his use of double meanings are always impressive. Although he may not be the best in terms of wordplay, hard punchlines, etc but his unsurmountable swag and wording makes up for every possible idiosyncrasies. Not to mention, he has a shitload of accomplishments and W’s he got from people. Most def one of those dudes I’d dread to face. Btw, I doubt anyone touchin him in a self-hype kind of battle.

2. DaDDiO
He’s not the best rhymer in my opinion, but that is traded for flow, concepts and overpowering punchlines. His concepts is what greatly helps his punchlines because he uses concepts and slang that always relate to the voters so when the punch comes, it’s very effective. And it’s on a consistent level that he drops hard punches. EVEN in a 32-64 line battle, where most people lose their steam and become inconsistent.

3. RULE/Revan
Another dude in the swag department. Though his rhymes and wording isn’t as smooth as Jason’s imo, he does come with some less filler and more punches, hard punches at that. The way he takes everyday phrases and idioms and makes a punchline out of them is witty. Almost every battle of his , there is at least one quotable. The fact that he dropped numerous 32-64 line cyphers with almost a limitless amount of punchlines shows how easy crafting punches are. He is number one when it comes to consistency, and his shitload of championships back that up.

4. Mikey DeNiro/Al Swishha
This was the dude that showed me the ropes in the text battling scene through LB and FB, but this isn’t the reason why I throw him on the list. There probably isn’t a memorable punchline from him but the way he just keeps the rhyme scheme effortlessly while throwing jabs makes him a very entertaining battler as well as a force to reckon with. Sure , DaDDiO is a schemer as well but if they both had a scheme battle, Mikey wouldn’t have to worry when people question if his shit rhymes because he slants appropriately, and the slants are usually close to the rhyme. Taking out a lot of opponents whilst scheming at will portrays this swag that says “I can beat you with my eyes closed”. There are a few who use scheming to write punchlines but no one has done it as consistently as Mikey.

5. NawkOut
I had to put this guy in there because he has the most creative and dopest wordplays I have ever seen, which really displays sheer genius. The concepts utilized and the punches that follows are greatly complimented by his use of wordplay which makes his whole drop in a battle menacing. Not to mention, he has an undefeated record. Probably the only title-less guy who deserves a title the most.

Ill Phenom

1. RULE
Really have no other choice here. We came up around the same time and were both original classick. I believe we had split battles (1-1) in the beginning. He is one of the not only a textcee but people I respect the most on the site by far. As far as why I put him in as a personal preference as a textcee goes without question. He ability to form amazing punches at ease is close to unmatchable. He dominated in a short amount of time and was always fun and humble to those around him. He wasn't one of the piece of shit good textcee's that ended up falling off for that reason.

2. Jason
I learned a shit ton just from reading his verses. He always had some of the best wording and flow that you can find on the site. Everything was always so smooth when he wrote it. Even something so simple sounded dope because of that. I believe awhile back he had helped me quite a bit on one of the Instant Messagers, maybe MSN. Really a stand up guy, always has a firm and just opinion on everything. Besides that he's another one with great achievements on the site as a textcee.

3. UNKNOWN ARTIST
Among the other two, I feel he is one that goes without question. He has some of the best verses that have been written on this site. He went under a different alias and won text championships before anyone knew that it was him. That takes some skill to come up winning in a complete unbiased state. He battled with the best of them and always seems to come fresh every single time he writes.

4. Rican
Although he may not be the most consistent when it comes to winning when it counts in battles whether that's to bias'd opinions or not is besides the point. There are not many that can turn random shit into some of the most original concepts on the site. He find everything and anything to turn into a dope ass concept and many times a slick wordplay that no one else on the site would come close to even thinking of. Although I don't really talk to anyone on here anymore, he was one of the few members that were really more like a friend rather than just an internet acquaintance. That did get us in trouble in that tournament though. lol

5. SH1T L0RD
Or whatever he name is now. Not sure if he is still around but I remember reading some of his verses and thinking damn that is sick. He always had some crazy concepts and were very aggressive. I actually sorta remember one of my favorite lines from him. Might have been against me and I'm not sure the exact concept of the line but it to do with eating at a family dinner and putting a mother in the microwave. Then he had some audio stuff that was off the chain as well. Definitely one of my favorite writers when I was active.
