Poetic Justice Tournament • Round One
Poetic Justice Tournament
This is the first ever LetsBeef Poetic Justice Tournament. LetsBeef has never seen anything of this kind before. It is a strictly poetry tournament. Each round a different form of poetry will be chosen. The contestants will go head to head with each other in a single elimination style tournament. Each battle will have a set topic each contestant will write their poem on. These battles will be held in the TEXT CYPHER SECTION. The winner of each battle will be chosen by our prestigious JUDGE PANEL composed of 5 highly regarded member of LetsBeef.com!
The Judge Panel
Judge #1: @Askari
Judge #2: @Dissizit
Judge #3: @GRizzEAT
Judge #4: @AfterThought
Judge #5: @Verity
The judges will fairly vote on each battle. They will decide who they thought made the best poem overall. The voting is best out of 5, and if someone receives the first 3 votes, it is a 3-0 KO! If a judge is missing and can't vote on a battle that needs a vote to close, I will step in UNLESS it is my own battle.
Round One's Form of Poetry: HAIKU
Haiku is a form of poetry that has 3 LINES. A Haiku poem traditionally has 17 syllables in total with the first line containing 5 syllables, the second having 7, & the third having 5. But for our competition, we will not follow these exact rules because it is not mandatory you follow these syllable rules. We will instead have 3 lines with each having NO more than 10 syllables. A Haiku poem usually does NOT rhyme, but there are no rules against it. The main idea of a Haiku is that Haiku is like a photo that captures the essence of what's happening, often connecting two seemingly unrelated things. You want to be as artistic, sophisticated, & elegant as possible in a Haiku. You also want to use many sensory details that paint a picture. Good adjectives/descriptors & two or three powerful verbs are useful.
HAIKU EXAMPLE
Rain falls, seeds sprout
Continues life from something
Small but strong, it grows.
Your Piece
You must convey what is happening in the topic you have the better than your opponent does with THREE LINES & each line can have NO more than TEN SYLLABLES. If you go over the syllable or line limit, you will be DQ'd. It does NOT have to rhyme; it can, but it rhyming has no benefit to you.
What You Will Be Judged On
@Askari, @Dissizit, @GRizzEAT, @AfterThought, & @Verity will judge you on:
1. How Much You Can Get Across With Your Limited Syllables
2. The Connection of Your Poem To The Topic
3. Imagery
4. Vocabulary
5. The Impact of "The Moment", or The Brief Moment In Time Captured
6. The Quality of "The Image", or How Well The Moment Is Conveyed Through Imagery and How Clear It Is
7. Good Use of a "Cutting Word", or The Word That Transitions The Poem From "The Moment" and "The Image" To an Action and Its Result
8. The Impact and Clarity of The Action and What Results From It
Bracket
