Welcome to Episode 1 of Letsbeef.com's official "Spotlight on..." series.

Once a month I will interview a member of Lets Beef to find out more about them and get their opinons on current events.

Let's kick this off with arguably the best textcee on the site at the moment, the current LBT champion...

ILLoKWENT

ILLoKWENT has been a member of Lets Beef since 2011 and very early on showed signs of potential. He quickly established himself as a solid middleweight textcee. Once his name became known around the site he took on the bigger names, entered official tournaments and took notable wins. His consistency in his performances and fearless attitude in squaring up with anyone that was regarded as a problem on this site led to him reaching that heavy weight status; and he is showing no signs of slipping.

He is the current LBT champion with a record of 9-0; can he be stopped?

When and why did you start text battling?

I started in late 04, 05, enjoyed watching scribblejam dvds..(watching dudes like rhymefest, eyedea, swann, mc. juice etc...freestyle) and rap battles in general... then happened upon a site called hiphopbattles.net..the rest is history..

What attracted you to LB

Happened on it by accident... initially i was like how the fuck do you navigate on this crazy looking site... signed up, then came back months later and finally dropped a battle here..

You are widely known on LB as a heavyweight… at what point do u feel that u hit that heavyweight status?

I'd say it was during the GC run i had up til my toe to toe battle wit disizit.. i actually started to really find a style i enjoyed doing and ran with it..

Which of your battles is your favourite?

My favorite would prolly be against phroxen...because he is no doubt ,one of the best texters on this site, as far as structure, flow, and concepts..and hes oldschool Goldmic alumni, so it was even sweeter..

Who do you think will be the next site wide recognized heavyweight?

Vitriol, hes been here for a while now,payin his dues. and is finally getting the recognition, he deserves... manhattan is getting up there as well,

Who do you think are the most over rated and under rated members?

Overrated.. im not one for disrespecting anyone , so i'll go with most underrated,, enfinite, subreal, nicholas, bleu, to name a few..

Will we ever see illo pic up a mic?

Never say never..

If you could battle any member, past or present, in any format, who would it be and how would it go down?

vs.. daddio...or UA..

You spent a lot of time with the ACs, why did you leave?

Felt that i had been wit the crew since its incarnation and it was time to pass the torch to someone else. and see other people...lol

And your new crew, GOAT, what have u got cooking with them? Is it a long term move?

Hopefully for the latter part of this year, we plan to get alot more active in tourneys and get some more titles in...improve and hone our skills even more and help take the lead in keeping LB competitive.

Your LBT record is pretty impressive, how long does it take you to write these 32s?

Usually i come up wit a few lines here and there everyday, then over time i reach 32... but ever since the two no shows, i now wait til my opponent drops ... then uninterupted i could drop a 32 in about 3 hours..

Take us through your writing process

Again, during the course of the day, i just randomly think of concepts to implement, and if i feel they deserve to be in my verse, i start carving out a multi set that works and mold from there..usually on my android....

Your 1st battle on this site was against Fiji osa, a match that u lost 100%-0. As the FVC mod you must be use to breaking verses down, can you break down your verse and drop a rating out of 10 as if you were voting for on someone elses battle.

ya aint the MAN WIT THE SCRIPTS, and i'm 'out for blood' like a CANIBAL'S DRINK,so think 'twice-if-ya-fight-me' and you only 'nice- wit- the- mic -fi', cause this pedo's into HANDLING KIDS/(nanny mcfee)

setup mini jab was decent, but irrelavent towards the end punch, i'd like if you'd built up more towards how his fi handling kids? or maybe nanny mcfee references...

peepd ya battles, nothing but RAMBLING BITCH, while my SPRAYS ARE SOMETHIN MORBID,and if ya feeling 'phat in the goon squad?',my blatant punch will TAKE THE 'CHUNK' OUT YOUR HEAD/

again irrelavent filler in the setup, you talkin bout his battles, then next line you talkin bout his squad... utilize more goonie references or setup wit something bout his squad

ya AINT GOT GUTS FOR WAR WENCH,, so when i COME ADDRESS YOUR FREES WITH WORDS,it'll fuckin 'drop fi', quicker than COMPLIMENTARY DINNERS/

okay name flip, a bit predictable and basically written concept.

I GOT NICE FLOWS JERK, that'll 'DROP THIS POSER', so against me, 'ji' 'aint the real deal', like ON LINE POKER/

decent concept, again no relavency..

Manhattan asks: What was the big first key in elevating his game to heavyweight?

First big key is to learn to listen to advice and be able implement it... alot of dudes get critiqued and given good tips, but always do the same shit, or just dont really understand what the advice meant, and how to do it...hattan is a very good listener, and knows how to run with good advice...

Nicholas asks: why hasn’t he sent the GOAT invite yet? Is there a glitch or something?

Its DADDIO'S call... his team.

Speaking of nich, he recently joined ACs, and then left because ACs did not have any “big names” … whats your opinon on this?

I look at it this way... nick is at a stage in his LB career where hes elevated to a certain point and thinks he may have hit a ceiling to his ability... so the lack of big names could translate to possibly a couple big name battlers who could help him further... or simply the direction of the crew and their stance on recruiting big names may be different to nich's philosophy on crew development.... could be other reasons.... imo, ACs, had big names in the past, but a 'big heart' is where it counts the most, and after all this time, their heart continues to beat strong.....

Bodybag for grizzeat...maybe a few more tourneys , then..........
