I never got that either. It sounds like Eminem elitism to me. He raps the exact same as he used to, with better lyricism and generally more original music.

His level of skill has certainly fallen from his earlier work, especially his slim shady days. Also, his flow isn't as sharp.
Secondly, he just doesn't have anything to rap about. The biggest problems he has now on a daily basis are if he wants crab or lobster for lunch.
