I believe in karma firmly and doing good is doing good, period. Is it a little fucked up if you expect something in return? like some kind of promotion or good karma? We aren't selfless people
That's why we have expressions like "I'm doing me" or "I'm looking out for #1"
I do good deeds all the time and in the back of my head the idea of balancing my karma is omnipresent. But that doesn't mean I do good deeds just for the karmic consequence, rather, I'm aware of the karmic consequence that can come with doing good unto other people, so why not?
As humans we have the great gift of being able to tell how people are feeling without them saying jack shit. It's called facial expressions. Facial expressions are a form of emotional feedback. So if you do something that makes someone frown, you know they're feeling sad. My whole thing is, as long as you're making people smile and laugh, do what you do. Even if you do expect a reward in return

lets assume you did this good deed just to increase your good karma- maybe in hopes of getting that promotion you want.
or to decrease your bad karma- maybe you did it cus your mom is sick and you wanna do some good so hopefully it comes back round for you and she gets better
did you still do a good deed? either way the old bird gets across the street regardless of your ulterior motives. but are you still doing GOOD?
i wonder about this often
i try to do good things just because they are the right and good thing to do. but i think just like anyone else sometimes i do good things because i feel like they will haunt me if i dont do them
does anyone else ever wonder about this?
what are your thoughts?
are you really doing good if youre expecting a cut of the good in return? or does it have to be purely out of good heart to truly be a good deed?

To me it's still a good deed no matter how you go about it. For me personally, I think I should be getting some good karma in return for helping, but I think this after I've done the good deed. For instance, the other night I was driving home from a movie when I see a car stuck in the snow on the side of the road with one kid trying to push as his mother is controlling the car. My first thought was to get out and help. I help push the car and my girl joins me, we get the car out and the woman and her son were so thankful, they even tried paying us. Only as I'm driving away do I think I just created some good karma for myself. No matter how I thought about it though, I was still helping even if for some reason I expected money, or hearing them say thanks (Neither if which I thought) In my opinion no matter how you go about it it's still a good thing.

I can't say. If I do something for someone else it's because it's what feels like the right thing to do at the time.
Never really thought about the "positive effect" it could have on me in the future.

As individuals, we are our own first reference to reality. Our kindness to others stem from our own self consideration. We think things like "if I was that poor old lady, I would probably want someone to help me across the street. let me just help her out." If someone says there absolutely no type of self consideration, they're.

This is wrong. Atleast for me. If I see someone needs a hand I help them because I feel they need help. I don't put myself in their position because to do that would be to stand around and dawdle while I'm thinking "If that was me I'd expect....." I offer help in an instant.
Me and my boys work van broke down a couple weeks ago. And as soon as we got out to push it on the curb. Four lads ran over and helped us. Literally the second we got out.
You're telling me all 4 of them were putting their selves in our shoes?
No they seen we broke down. Seen the traffic behind and ran straight over to help.

Thats Not A Selfless Act.
The Consideration And/Or Feeling Of The Right By Itself Is Selfish.
If Someone Needs Money And I Give Them It, I Do It Because They Needed It.
Not Because It (Feels Like It Is) The Right Thing To Do. That Is A Selfless Act.
