As individuals, we are our own first reference to reality. Our kindness to others stem from our own self consideration. We think things like "if I was that poor old lady, I would probably want someone to help me across the street. let me just help her out." If someone says there absolutely no type of self consideration, they're lying to themselves. Our benevolence towards others stem from our benevolence toward ourselves. You can't truly love someone without loving yourself. Neither can you be truly "good" toward someone else without at least being "good" toward your own principles.

this is a great answer

even if you do something cause u think its good still fulfills an emotional need or want because it makes u feel good about doing the right thing.. there really isnt any way around it.. one cant do a good deed and feel insensitive or devoid of anything after doing it

now this i can agree with
but your original statement was that you cant do a good deed without selfish gain ... the problem with that is you CAN do a good deed without expecting to feel so great after ... so it was done without selfish motivation but still resulted in a good feeling

So if you believe in good/bad karma what about things you do for good thats bad ? What kind of karma would you receive for that ? or will karma just cancel itself out..
ex: I kill a man to save a female .... there is nothing good about murder but I'm saving someone .
ex 2: my aunts about to get kicked out her home and I sell crack to help her keep her apartment.
^^ For confusing reason like that I can't honestly believe in Karma I just think that Good things & Bad things are always going to happen to people and Most just wanna justify why so they use Karma as a explanation to everything that goes wrong or right .

To me, the terms "Good" and "Bad" are phrases meant to both demonize, and romanticize morality respectively. There is no good, or bad deed. There are only deeds which are moral, or immoral under the constraints of a societal system of ethics.

It is no longer a good deed once you do it for the wrong reason, simple as that.

I personally don't believe in Karma. I think it's bullshit, particularly when you research how the concept came about. And I hate when people try to affiliate it with the scientific maxim that "for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." Two totally different meanings. Newton was saying if you bounce a ball on the ground, for example, the harder you throw it against the ground, the higher it will come back up. He wasn't saying if you bounce a ball, you yourself will be bounced the same way later on at some point in time. But I hear what you're saying. Some people just need to believe there's such a thing as karma to keep them acting right, and if that's what it takes, more power to them.
