How come we don't welcome new members?
I see a lot of complaining about how the membership is low and there isn't much activity. There's a lot that we (everyone) could be doing to change that. Advertising the site to other sites is more of the owners' responsibility, but regular members can help out by hitting up new members and making them feel welcomed right away. If you look in the Welcome Forum, we still get about 5 new users each day---and these are just the ones that are confirmed. More users than that register each day but the Welcome Forum only shows the ones who have activated their account through the confirmation email that is sent to them. At 5 new users per day, that's 35 new members per week, 140 new members per month and 1,820 new users per year! Does it feel like we're gaining 1,820 new users per year? I don't think so...but we are having that many confirmed new users so obviously a lot of them are not sticking around. I'm just saying we can all help that by hitting up the new members and making them feel welcomed right away, that's all. It makes very little sense to complain about something and not do what one can to remedy it. Welcoming members may not be as impactful as advertising, fixing bugs, adding new features and all the other changes we need to make, but it does help and it is something we can all do and don't have to wait on anyone else to do.

Oh. You mean clowning new members until they quit isn't helping the activity levels? Well I'll be damned.
Lb might need to change a few things.

Shoutbox needs to be non-exclusive. New members who join don't even know it exist, and we will probably keep more members here if when someone joins they immediately see the shoutbox and can talk to people. More people would welcome dudes in the shoutbox

No, I don't mean clowning or harassing new members. If I see that happening, whoever does it will be dealt with.

I will see what the rest of staff thinks about this idea and we might implement it. I think part of the reason we haven't done so until now is that we still want some perks that only Exclusive Members have so that there is an incentive for Basic users to want to acquire Exclusive membership through winning it in some tournament or contest. We need to add new features that are only for Exclusive/VIP members anyway and we will be working on adding one or two soon.

I agree that the chatbox needs to b for EVERYONE.. @ Subreal @ NOBLE
That's actually a GREAT idea. Makes them feel even more welcomed when they communicate with the members right ahead instead of waiting on thread replies that may never get looked at.

We're considering making IM available to everyone as well instead of just people on your buddy list. That's how it used to be a few years back but we got rid of it since a lot of people were IM'ing for votes. Now that the rules have changed and it's okay to advertise your battles, I think it's worth reconsidering.

I've BEEN wanting to do this, but there were some obstacles to doing it the way I want to do it. Mainly, it's been a lack of access to the server in a way where I can upload new HTML files and create new pages. But I think a lot of that will change soon. This WILL get done/started within the next 3 months. That's my word. If tutorials aren't started within 3 months, you can reference this thread and call me a liar. Having a landing page of thread which new users are forced to acknowledge viewing is something else that we should probably consider. This landing page or thread can contain all the tutorial videos which show them how easy it is to use LB and maybe some of the basic rules.
