With small businesses you have a small group devoted to the success of that business....less shares = higher percentage of ownership and financial compensation...
In the stock market your basically dealing with multi national organization who just wants to get rich...basically using ur money to do so with no real personnal losses to the primary investorsbif it fails...but crippling effects on the mid and low level shareholders....
Its basically capitalism in its worst form..

cus already large ones have a stock at a value too high for you to make any real profit
for example:
if a share of walmart stock is selling for 60 bucks... thats very expensive.. most people will only be able to buy like 20 shares for example.. so even if the value of the stock rises by 50 cents or something.. you still arent profiting very much
when you invest in a small business the value of the stock is very low .. lets say you grab 50 000 shares for 10 grand or something ... if the business starts to flourish then the value of the stocks will rise and you'll have 50 000 shares increasing in value as opposed to your 20 shares in walmart

the numbers are obviously not scaled out properly thats just the general concept

too general of a statement.. no one can predict what will happen .. each situation is unique. the stock market is a dangerous game its something people study and dedicate their lives too
the best thing to do is go online and find a mock stock market program, use fake money and buy mock stocks and get an understanding of how it works.. you'll probably need a broker to do any real trading .. its good to have a general understanding before you put in any real money.. especially because stocks are one of those things were you either go big or go home.. its a rich mans game
too little money and you wont profit enough .... too much money and you could lose your life savings .. its a delicate game .. and its one you shouldnt play without a lot of research and understanding

lol well to be more specific .. its just hard to say
for example facebook probably hit their high around the time the company went public on the stock market .. as of now im pretty sure theyve gone down .. seeing as facebook is on the decline and twitter is on the rise it unlikely that facebook wil rise again .. so in that situation .. youd stay away from facebook
someone like blackberry probably dropped when new iphone came out .. but now that theyre releasing the new blackberry .. chances are their stock will rise again in the coming months... so that might be a smarter play than facebook
i didnt mean to avoid answering your question ... its just that it very specific to what company youre talkin about .. anyone who had an answer to that just doesnt know what theyre talkin bout
