Four men were being held in county jail on suspicion they burglarized a couple of Blende homes and severely beat an occupant of one of the houses Friday.
According the Pueblo Sheriff's Department reports, deputies were dispatched to Delta and Liberty about 7:30 p.m. on a report of a burglary in progress with occupants of a white van attempting to leave.
When Deputy Bruce Cooper arrived, he blocked the van's exit from the driveway and several occupants bailed out. Cooper reported that other youths were seen running out of the house at 1902 Liberty.
Deputies found 20-year-old Patrick Reutter bleeding from the face. His eyes were swollen shut. Reutter told deputies that five or six men had beaten him when he tried to phone for help.
Reutter was admitted to Parkview Episcopal Hospital where he was listed in stable condition on Saturday.
Deputies found a guitar in the van, which Ruetter said had been stolen from his home next door to 1902 Liberty. Deputies found that all the appliances in Ruetter's home had been smashed.
Deputies also found a number of weapons inside the van, including a broken aluminum baseball bat, a wooden club, a chain with a padlock on one end and a set of brass knuckles.
Deputies apprehended five sus pects, but charges against one of the suspects were dropped for lack of evidence after a judge reviewed the suspects file on Saturday. The remaining suspects all face charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, criminal mischief.
