"The Locket"

That locket I've held close to me and carry it in my pocket/
I have left it in the car and every now and then I drop it/
It holds so many memories and has got me thru hardships/
Some of my family doesn't like it but I cannot stop this/
The pain overwhelmes the good most of the time I know/
I can't tell if its me or this object that cant seem to let go/
My father and his father had this locket so the blood flows/
But the rust and decay on this locket it molds and it grows/
When I first got it the polish and the clock still worked/
Now all it does is bring back memories of childhood hurt/
I keep on me its habit but it brings me some kind of therapy/
I can't tell who's holding on at times is it this object or me/
I don't need friends to talk to when I open up the locket/
Nothing else matters no other jewlery or any watches/
It makes me feel okay in the moment but the future it steals/
The next day I am not ready for the repercussions it deals/
The locket makes me go crazy at times or eveb act stupid/
But The temporary help it gives makes me run back to it/
Ill shine it up and try to repair all of this visible mistakes/
Either way my.locket always ends up in the same exact shape/
My father had the same attachment but he could never escape/
He was buried with his locket and took it all the way to his grave/
I guess people are right the apple doesn't fall for from the tree/
I never knew growing up that the apple would actually be me/
The fun time Ive had with the locket is actually part of the piece/
This locket is in control of my life and its a disease killin me/
Break the cycle of the locket but I know deep down that the key/
Cannot be bought or given but it comes from inside of me/
I don't think I'll give it up even though I know it makes a difference/
Ignore all the signs because it can't fester thoughts without attention/
This locket was not part of my life its not what I had envision/
The locket that I carry around is not a clock but alcoholism//
