They said as a white guy i didn't have the balls to work in st Paul's ..huh ...the fools .
 Started there I wouldn't say boo to a ghost , which was appropriate as I was whiter than most ..thought if I talked then I would be toast ... Half the the drivers in our taxis were dealers ...not crack or smack , just selling to those who liked reefers... lil bit of weed or hash now and then ..til one day on 92 T dredd walked in and chucked me a ten ..it was kinda green and flat and stunk like a pig pen ..I thought " what's this then !" ... t said that sfuff ? It's will get you herbally drunk , that's how I had my first taste of the skunk...


things moved on , our regular trade was yardys and ho's , or gals going out at night to Mr browns on Stapleton road . Nightlife was hectic , you had ajaxes club on the croft playing dub , roundabout and black n white cafe if ya fancied some grub , or the ho's in st Jude's if ya fancied a rub . But our office seemed to get hotter , stolen goods coming in and us getting heat off a pig called trotter ( true shit !!) . We had lots to sell , whatever your wish ... TVs , bikes , video players and even a truckload of fish ( true again!) ...half of at Paul's bought some , ackee was bought too , and with fried dumplings made quite a dish !!


 Pubs were open late , up in Montpelier the star wasn't far... but the coachhouse and Inkerman was the busiest bars... or ya had sounds systems like qualitex up in the Malcolm X ( centre) , where ya would gather to " watch da gal dem flex" ... But things got hotter still ..til ..one day I looked out on the green ..took a moment to register what I had seen ... fifty crackheads coming for us armed to the teeth !  I shouted to they guys something like oh shit ! And ran out n locked our door so damn quick ..., But thats when the axe head came knocking and the wood started to split ....thought I was losing my wit , the axe continued to hit so I hightailed it quick , made it to the backrrom but the boys had barricaded it ..tiny gap was left but I managed to fit ! ..yeah no thank to crusha and stix...them two cunts nearly recieved some damn licks for closing the door ..the pricks ! But we all survived ... blue lights came flashing and we knew that cops were near and that made the crackers retreat and finally  dissapear ....but they smashed up seven taxis , several drivers shed a tear  , but we just got on with it cos we never lived in fear. 


but that all changes the end of ninety six..15 murders in a month , we lost so many lives , to gangs and mass murder leaving widows who yesterday had been wives... stabbing in Jude's and Easton , life's taken with sharp knives , and moss side came from Manchester and we knew when they arrived . New year's Day ...7 in the morning ..little did we know how soon we would be mourning ... finished my shift , needed to eat, so headed to the roundabout as was just up the street ...that's when I heard the pops and saw running feet ... Moss boys popping firing gats  , shot bangy ( local guy)  In his neck , he staggered for a bit then fell down to the deck, hand came off his throat and I saw that it was wrecked , bled out in two minutes and I knew that he was dead...other shots rang out , I was dodging all the lead , caps hitting windows but thankfully not me head ...shot one of my work mates who tried to intervene ..gun held sideways gansta style like I a movie scene , thought it was a dream til I heard his gal scream and realised what I seen ...two shots , point blank , that's the kinda shit I mean... and this is real ..I'm dealing in fact...but that's when batta  turned up with his  bat ...chasing gunman   ..shooter turned round started aiming his gat...click click..chamber was empty but he'd commited his act , faggots ran away like the scaredest of rats ..never saw them again til I saw them on the news later that night as I sat in my flat .





 Sad thing is he wasn't the first , it was like death had a drink but hadn't quite quenched his thirst ...it was too commonplace those days to see a friend in the back of a hearse  , guys shot for revenge or some poor gal for her purse ...it's like mankind's thinking was stuck in reverse , that shit just reverbs , why can't the only thing we smoke just be ganja and herbs...guess that's it . Bristol on the nineties , described by a witness with words and put in this verse .
